Storage Tips - Do’s and Don’t’s

  • Don’t Store Flammable, Hazardous Material, firearms, explosives, or other toxic chemicals
  • Don’t keep food or other perishables in your storage unit
  • Do Label your boxes. This will save you hours and hours sifting through your storage unit in the future
  • Do Stack Properly. Try to use boxes that are uniform sizes. Big Bulky items should be on the bottom and lighter items on top.
  • Don’t wrap your items in plastic. Although this is easy for moving trucks to keep items together. The plastic wrap should be removed as condensation will build behind the plastic and changes in temperature will lead to mold. GROSS
  • Don’t climb on top of things to grab your items. This seems like common sense but valuables and your head or bones can easily break from a fall.
  • Do keep an aisle open to get to the back of the unit to access your belongings. You should also leave space between the walls and you belongings to allow air to circulate.
  • Do keep your most frequently used its toward the front of the unit for easy access.
  • Do take photos of your belongings and keep an inventory of what is in your unit. This will also assist you in the event of a claim.
  • Do get insurance. WE do require insurance to help protect your belongings in the event of a loss. You can either purchase the insurance offered during booking or talk to your insurance agent and upload a certificate showing proof of insurance.
  • Do purchase a LTE or Wi-Fi camera. You can strategically place a camera in your unit. If you purchase access to Wi-Fi you can get a picture or video sent to your phone anytime the unit is opened. You can also do this using a LTE camera but the subscriptions can be much higher.
  • Don’t place rodent poisons in your unit. You will attract unwanted pests to your unit and they could die inside of your unit and cause a very unpleasant scent to your belongings.
